Rootin' N' Tootin' Typeface

Overview and Goal
A Concept-Driven Typeface
The purpose was to design a typeface from concept to sketch to screen. The primary goal was to create 52 glyphs with spec sheets and an application of the typeface in use to showcase the work.
Approach
Looking Back at the Wild West
This typeface was inspired by Western entertainment and the cowboy boots worn by the stars of them. I wanted to create a slab serif, high contrast, inverted weight font with a bold, rustic, and strong tone.
Solution
Playful Yet Classic
Rootin’ N’ Tootin’ is a typeface inspired by the shape of the heel of the cowboy boots worn by the stars of Western entertainment. It has a playful and lighthearted feel while maintaining a classic Western look. The slab serifs display the recognizable shape of negative space between the heel and toe of a cowboy boot. Its high contrast and inverted weight give it a high level of readability. This typeface exists in a world where the phrase “this town ain’t big enough for the both of us” is spoken regularly.
