2014 – Kyoorius Design Awards Night. I wondered, what if introverted and socially awkward designers had to dance down a ramp to receive their trophies?
I drew inspiration from Soul Train, quickly sketched an idea in a cafe, and transformed that sketch into the design for the awards night. I also had to take into account that there was only a short 2-hour gap to convert the 1500-seater design conference hall into an awards night stage and dancehall.
This turned out to be one of the most enjoyable and engaging awards night designs. Watch the video, and you'll spot Tim Malbon of Made by Many hosting the awards night, Nathan Prince and Liam Paton of Silent Studios, Jonathan Ford of Pearlfisher, Patrick Burgoyne of Creative Review, and others dancing as they present the trophies. The highlight? The legendary late Ivan Chermayeff also joined in the dancing.
