WipEout Team Creation Project
Recently, I've been working on a project to create my own team for the video game, WipEout. WipEout is a futuristic racing game originally released on the PS1 in 1995. Originally, I had no idea about WipEout. During the course of this project, I made sketches, an orthographic, and even a 3D model.
These were the sketches I made for my ship. There are 14 different designs here, and all are good in their own right, but the one I liked the most was ship 2 (the one that's labelled)
Here is the orthographic I made for my ship. It was a little tedious to make, as I tried to use Abode Illustrator for the first time. In all honesty, it came out pretty nice. The colour palette consists of 6 colours, and that was more than enough for the ship. If there was more colours, it would be too crowded.
Here are the various stages of the modelling process. Each part of the ship was its own model, so I could work with it better. The cockpit was the first thing I modelled. Whilst it was easy to make the original model, the DNA strands were very difficult to create. It was time-consuming, but I was able to persist, and make them in the end. The wings were a similar story. They took a little longer, as I had to wrap the strand underneath the wing itself. Before the wings, the base and thrusters were made. They were very simplistic to make, but simple was the idea behind this ship. I wanted it to be low resolution and low poly to emulate the style of the original game on the PS1 release in 1995.
Here is the official render for the ship I created. All in all, I am very pleased with the outcome. I was never really that confident with Blender, or 3D in general, but this has boosted my confidence and skills with Blender.
