Sanatorium in Chodzież

Formerly a sanatorium for pulmonary-sick people of the State Railway Workers' Pension Fund, and currently it is the Wielkopolska Center of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery in Chodzież.
In the 1930s, the railway sanatorium was one of the elite centers in Poland specializing in the treatment of lung diseases.
This beautiful neoclassical building was built in 1923-1925 on the initiative of the Pension Fund for PKP Workers in Poznań.
The then President of the Republic of Poland, Stanisław Wojciechowski, took part in the opening of the sanatorium.
According to various information that can be found about this building, the drama "The Shoemakers" was probably completed here during Witkacy's stay.
Another interesting fact is that Mr. Witkacy often visited his friend Dr. Teodor Białynicki Birula in Chodzież.
The hospital is located in a picturesque part of Chodzież, on a hill called Wilczyniec, at ul. Strzelecka, which is reached by an asphalt road, and around it there is a beautiful forest and the nearby Strzelecki Lake.
