ZACH BRYAN SCREENPRINT (UNFINISHED)

ZACH BRYAN POSTER

In every project, I enjoy starting with some inspiration. For this, I did a quick pinterest search for "screen printed country posters" to get an idea of the kind of vibe I would be going for. I started to find a color scheme and some basic sketch ideas. That was the next step, creating sketches.

Above are some photos of the sketches that I created. It started as 18 sketches of revisions of my drawings. The final result that i pursued and continued to revise was the last sketch. After this, I began sketches on my ipad.
After I finalized the first sketch, I began working on the second round of sketch that included color. I wanted a south west color scheme as seen tested above.
Above is the finalized sketches of my idea. I chose to use the left color palette, as I saw the colors being more fitting to the song. It also felt warmer and a bit more cohesive. The left is also the final design that became the print.
The first step to the screen printing process is laying emulsion. Above is me in that process.
While the emulsion dried, I printed the transparencies for the project. There is one for each color and there will be three screens of emulsion used; one for each color.
After the emulsion was dried, I placed the transparencies on the screens in hopes of them getting exposed properly. Above is me placing foam and tiles on my screens so that no light was transferred onto the emulsions to make for the best output.
After the screens were successfully exposed, I rinsed the excess emulsion out for the stencils that would be printed. Above is me washing the screens out for the stencil. After this it is time to print with ink!
After washing the screens, they needed to be dried. I needed this process to be faster than it was, so I took the screens outside to dry.
With the screens and the ink all being fully prepared, I began printing. I used an orange as my first color.
This is the first layer of ink that was laid, and the rest is yet to come.
After much time and much effort, my final product was done! Three coats of ink and 3 screens later produced this work.
