Nutter Gutters Web

The Nutter Gutters are a recreational bowling league team. The goal of this project was to have a central landing area to show key stats week to week, as well as the historical records of the team. A specific request was to add a page of milestones and special team moments. Final result was a two tier site with the primary information on the landing page with the secondary page history with a display of team highlights that don't require stats. Nuttergutters.com
Lane Talk App, My Bowling Score App, Bowl.com Site, PBA.com Site
Started the design process with 3 key points of data, interviewing local league bowlers, bowling based websites and apps, and bowling social media. The local bowlers gave key insight into the type of information and statistics that are most important. As well as the idea of keeping key inside jokes, and team moments memorialized. Diving into the world of bowling based web and apps gave key comparison of techniques on how to display data.
The first major challenge was to translate data heavy and excel based information into an easy to read visual format. There is a wealth of data that is collected in the background each week of the bowling season. Translating this raw and hard to parse pile of numbers was the driving force behind the visual design.
Sketch Development
A major part of my design process is pen and paper sketching to start the overall visual and site layout.
Wireframe layout and testing
Translating the notebook sketching into wireframes using Adobe XD in this case. Evaluating the placement of menus, headers and the best way to present the information.
Score Block Update
Creating a more modern and modular design element for the presentation of the score data was one of the pivotal choices of the process. Landing on square split shapes that can be used for many purposes.
During the wire-framing process, there was also a dual tracked push to create the look and branding for the website. Defining colors, shapes, and general look of the site before going into the full prototype.
Wide Range
Full Prototype
Initial prototype was a multi Page layout with less information per page. Refined this to make the website more glanceable and scrollable for mobile use.
Created a focused 2 page website with large bold images and scrolling down to find more information. Second page used as a collection of moments that stand out for the team. As well as unique icons to back up text.
The main page is designed to hold all of the key information. Mini team overview and image to start for new visitors. Followed by a visual recap of the last week's scores and any stand out notes.
Finally a list of the last season's recap showing a lot of detailed stats and graph of scores over time.
The History page is much more about fun and light moments that have been shared on league nights or traditions that have been created.
Giving larger images and more space to view.
Flexible design creates a great mobile experience as well.
