The piece was designed by myself in collaboration with the wonderful Melbourne-based artist Kimby Dawson, as one of the thirty tee shirts to be sold by Threadless in the Help Adam White (HAW yeah!) MADE shop. 

 

Adam White is a great designer and a beloved member of the Threadless artists community who has recently been hit with some very difficult medical news, and some accompanying astronomical medical bills. The community wanted to pull together to do something for him, both as moral support and as direct aid to his financial burdens, so 100% of the profits from the designs sold through this MADE store will go directly to Adam. Threadless is not taking any profit, nor are any of the artists. I worked really hard to make the textures look good. Kimby did an amazing job on the snake's scales. 

As Kimby and I were sending the file back and forth, we'd leave little notes to each other about things that still need fixing. 

I wanted the skull to be realistic-looking but also lavishly decorated, and one of the ideas was to do it in a white-and-blue ceramic style. My original idea was for the skull to be in white and blue and the rest of the scene to be in natural colors, but when Kimby made this tonal blue palette it just blew my mind, so we ran with it. 

I drew the initial artwork on an A3 size sketching pad. The paper was a little rougher than I'd have liked so my micron pens struggled a bit. 

These are all of the designs in the collection - made by a very diverse group of talented, passionate, kind and caring people. I'm extremely proud I got a chance to stand side by side with them and take part in this unique project.
