Week 3: Images as Storytelling – 'Betrayal'

This week's theme focused on storytelling through the use of images. In accordance with this, I produced a short, five-frame comic about my brother's cat, Nala, whom I looked after over the Christmas holidays in 2022. In it, Nala feels betrayed as she excitedly expects her parents to come home, only to find out that it was two people she had never met before. This comic was produced digitally through Procreate using the 'Salamanca' paint brush. Overall, I am quite pleased with the end result as I believe the comic encapsulates Nala's emotions quite well through the images themselves. For example, the feeling of relaxation and satisfaction in frame 1; suspense in frame 2; disappointment in frame 3; confusion and anger in frame 4; and longing in frame 5. I believe the comic also sets the scene well, providing the audience with necessary context without detracting from Nala as the main focus. One area I feel I could have done better, is perhaps the size of Nala's head and perspective in frame 2. I feel as though if it was resized smaller, it would look less drastic in comparison to the first frame and lead to a more cohesive feeling comic.
