Publication design - Kinfolk
Brief
The publication design brief challenged us to create a set of spreads for a magazine which helped to effectively communicate the artistic and creative attitude of the publication. This brief also challenged an understanding of typography and how it functions as part of the communication of the publication.
Concept
The following design is a fictional issue for July of 2023 for the online magazine Kinfolk. This project imagines what a print publication would look like and takes inspiration from an understated yet quirky and playful design style. The content of the issue ranges from obscure written pieces with experimental visual elements to photography spreads that evoke a more sensitive voice.

Reflection
This was a very fun and challenging brief. On the one hand publication design has so much potential and opportunity for amazing design and on the other hand, there are so many constraints that make it something difficult to design. I had fun creating the offbeat aesthetic for this publication and look forward to doing more work in this style.
