Something Random Magazine | Vol. 1

 Vol. 1
The "Something Random Magazine" is a fictional magazine I created, inspired by the renowned magazine "The New Yorker," with the purpose of developing illustrations of critical content on social themes. Its covers are not necessarily based on specific magazine or newspaper articles, but rather on personal reflections that arise in my day-to-day sketches.
The inspiration for the name of this magazine arises from the emblematic phrase 'Life is not random by chance,' spoken in the Brazilian series 'Ninguém tá olhando' (Nobody's Looking). Although this phrase inspires various reflections, I deeply identified with it, as it is during carefree moments when I let random ideas flow that I find the true sense and meaning in my creations.
For the first edition of "Something Random," I decided to explore the theme of technology across different generations and its impact on our humanity. In this context, I created a monotonous and casual scene of a family dominated by technology. Using surrealistic elements, I depicted the characters with heads shaped like electronic devices, while the room's lamp took the form of a human head. Despite illuminating the room, the human head lamp appears cracked and with closed eyes, symbolizing the disconnection from reality.
Another (non-random) element of the artwork is the paintings on the walls, depicting windows and passages, symbolizing the external or internal view of places, while also satirizing the lack of natural illumination and external perspective in the environment where the characters find themselves.
