Self: Data Exploration

About
"Self", visually represents social pressures through photographs and objects. Each object symbolizes a specific experience, such as body image disorder or violence in education. The project started with printed posters and later involved over 50 people naming objects representing social oppression. By categorizing objects and colors by age and gender, a chart was created to analyze societal psychology. Later on, to make the chart interactive I turned the project into a website in which users can both observe the chart and add their objects to expand it.

Chart

On Desktop
User interaction takes place with arrows above and below the purple box. The normally fixed chart rotates to see objects that match the stories.

Other Pages
A survey appears at the last page, users can answer questions so that Self would return to a large-scale research. The user also experience the algorithm in which the collected data is processed, revealing the relevance of social pressure to objects and colors. Here the project pushes people to question again. Why are some colors chosen more? How is social pressure perceived by age and gender?
Thank you!
