Inspired by larger vertical farming systems, Stem is an indoor modular appliance used for growing small plants. It enables users to grow herbs and small vegetables easily and efficiently with an automated hydroponic system, automatically watering plants on a timed cycle with little maintenance. Modular sections can be added or taken away to accommodate any space or need.
Background
It is believed that over the years our world has changed drastically whether by global warming or other natural phenomenon. Over this time period the ground we plant on has diminished considerably and continues to do so. There have been multiple projects completed by other designers and architects on huge on scales using a term called vertical farming. I decided to design a product that solved the issue of growing plants with a lack of space. This meant consumers with either a small garden or none at all were still able to grow there own produce. With this simple yet elegant hydroponic system as a centre piece to any kitchen or home, family's are able to grow their own food in both a practical yet satisfying manner.
