Rejected book cover designs for Rape - A love story, by Joyce Carol Oates.
I wanted to use paintings depicting uncomfortable and romanticized interactions between men and women for this uncomfortable and powerful novel. Two of the paintings are done by Artemisia Gentileschi, an italian painter whose artwork is always showing women taking revenge on men who abused them.
