DESIGNING FOR JIN+JA
I started working on JIN+JA, a spicy juice beverage, with its founder Reuben Canada in 2012. I was in charge of all graphics and branding direction from the start. I designed the logo, label, packaging, printed matter and trade show materials.
My original instinct for the design of JIN+JA was to go "outside-the-box" as JIN+JA is a combination of unique flavors with a cayenne pepper kick. I chose to feature red and black prominently on the label, and we decided to use a red cap for the glass bottles, which are custom-designed. This allows JIN+JA to stand out in a beverage line-up, and call attention to its spicy quality.
We extended the brand with a Dragon Fruit JIN+JA.
In 2013, JIN+JA won Outstanding Cold Beverage of The Year at the Specialty Food Awards in NYC, and is now enjoying large-scale success with distribution in venues like WholeFoods and Gourmet Garage. JIN+JA and Reuben have also been featured in several publications and morning tv shows.
