Communications & Community Engagement Action Team

Communications & Community Engagement Action Team
At the beginning of 2023, the Office of Performance & Data Analytics launched a new tool called the Strategic Initiative Execution Tool to better support the City Manager in identifying city-wide goals, track progress, and support cross-departmental efforts to improve City services. As part of this effort, the City Manager's Office of Communications was tapped to lead the Communications and Community Engagement Action Team, focused on carrying out the next phase of the Bloomberg Innovation Training Program and creating new city-wide communications & community engagement strategies.

Role: Chair & Lead Facilitator

So far, our team's work has spanned the pathway to innovation from understanding the challenges residents and city staff face to generating new ideas for improvement. We've taken on new personas to conduct usability tests on the City's website and are currently testing prototypes for a new community engagement resource hub for staff.

We are currently in the process of finalizing a community engagement guide and communications strategy for City staff. Both the guide and strategy will include interactive tools to support better communication and connection between residents and their local government.

Project Highlights:
- Individuals across 13 departments have the opportunity to contribute to and help make decisions about two large-scale initiatives that will impact City services for years to come.
- Action Team members receive training on human-centered government practices by experiencing collaborative ideation sessions first-hand.
