This mechanical and electrical plant provides steam, condensate, gases, conditioned air, water, and emergency power to a chocolate and coffee processing facility for a global chocolate manufacturer. The mechanical plant is deliberately oversized to allow for future expansion of the processing facility, such that the road along the exposed, west-facing façade will later also become an internal street.

In keeping with the client's request for transparency, the ground floor is clad in translucent polycarbonate with tempered glass access doors that frame the transformers, generators, turbines, condensers, and boilers, turning them into museum pieces. The bulk of the building, clad in a graphite-colored, standing seam zinc-titanium panels, floats above this open story. The line of the buildings' parapets is maintained in places by perforated screens of the same color, which in turn shield the rooftop air conditioning units and solar panels.

The pipeline bridges connecting the plant buidings and processing facility also serves as a pedestrian overpass. The sillouettes of workers as well as the color coded mechanical piping and electrical conduits are visible through these bridges' polycarbonate walls. The facility operates 24-hours a day, and at night, the bridges and the translucent ground floor of the mechanical plant illuminate the internal street.

The project involved taking the design from a napkin sketch to bid-level documentation in line with European Union standards in a matter of six weeks. It also involved collaboration among three redundant sets of consultants: the company's in-house team, a full set of independent architectural and engineering consultants in Turkey, and a corresponding set of professionals in Bulgaria that was to prepare the regulatory drawings.
