Vintage Vines - Sticker Set Design
With the progression of the modern age, a lot of technology has gone out of use, abandoned in the name of progress. With this sticker set, titled 'Vintage Vines,' I decided to create three once-common objects being overgrown by moss and plants, using vector graphics, showing both the abandonment of these objects, and creating a reminder in the form of a sticker for those fascinated with the past.
Sketches
Because of the wide variety of potential subject matter for this sticker set, I spent a lot of time sketching. Some of the options I sketched included typewriters, vinyls, record players, and polaroid cameras. However, in the end I decided on a phone, a TV, and a lamp. All of these went through several iterations of sketches before I decided on the final version. As custom with most of my paper sketches, I created a final digital version of each sketch, as well as selected a general color palette.
Drafts
The basic layout for the stickers came together fairly quickly. I opted for a thicker line art, with slightly thinner detail lines for contrast. One of the biggest changes I made from the draft to the final was the moss. Based on feedback I received, I made the moss edges much rougher, adding more detail to them. I also warped some of the edges of the moss to curve around the changes in planes on the object's surfaces.
I experimented with adding cast shadows to the designs, but removed them after some feedback about how it can sometimes feel awkward for stickers. For purely digital designs? Yes, I probably would have kept the cast shadows. But for the purpose of the stickers, they were removed.
The Final Result
After further adjustments, feedback, and more adjustments, the three final stickers were complete.

The final 'Vintage Vines' sticker set, of three vintage objects being overgrown with moss and plants, is a good indicator of the loss of the past, as well as being a good reminder for those who look back on it fondly. The vector shading and thick line-art help give the stickers a smooth, refined appearance, while the spreading moss helps add a bit of the roughness of nature to it.
