Creature Feature!
I wanted to create some classic monster designs for a sphinx and a hellhound while trying photobashing and paintovers for the first time.
This was a pretty fun lesson for me!
I started off with the sphinx and wanted her to look pretty inhuman - more lion than woman.

I started off with the sphinx and wanted her to look pretty inhuman - more lion than woman.
For the sphinx, I wanted to reach uncanny valley territory - I wanted her to be uncomfortable to look at. This concept sketch reflects that.
For the hellhound, I wanted to stay away from fur and fuzz - I wanted the hellhound to have a skin-like, smooth and veiny texture that I wanted to convey through rendering.
