Blue Kudzu Fabric
I created a composition of kudzu leaves using Photoshop. I created the lace-like structure of leaves by machine stitching with cotton and silk on a dissolvable ground. To build surface texture I hand embroidered with organic indigo cotton floss on my AVL hand woven fabric. The leaves were then stitched to fabric surface. After the dissolvable ground was removed, the fabric was dipped in an organic indigo vat. The final sewn bag incorporated repurposed belt and burlap coffee bag. I additionally used silk noil fabric dyed in Japanese maple leaves.
