Community Mural, Hope for the Riverside

"The Riverside as it ought to be" This mural is on the wall of the Mandalay Waystion Community Center. The purpose was to encourage the Myanmar people who live on the Riverside and give them hope for their future. The mural is about 7' x 20+'. I incorporated some aspects of Myanmar culture and life, from the patterns to the raised bamboo houses, reminiscent of Inle Lake. The tree is on the Ayeyarwaddy River, where people currently live and struggle to make ends meet.  The river pattern is taken from a traditional wedding pattern, along with the sunrise and mountain patterns. The Burmese people still wear their traditional longi or passo, and these patterns hold many meanings. The joyful girl under the tree is sitting in a very traditional way with her feet tucked up under her, and the group is characteristic of many such groups sharing and socializing.
