Promoting the benefits of simple acts of nature connection with a sense of fun and positivity

My MA Illustration studies explored the power of illustration to encourage and promote nature connection, culminating in a poster design project entitled 'Nature Connection for the People!'

Studies show that raising raising our feelings of connection with nature can improve wellbeing, reduce stress, and lead to more environmentally-friendly behaviours.

Research has found that our feelings of nature connection can be raised from intentional interactions which leave a lasting impression. The large-scale characters and simple blocks of colour in this poster series focus attention on the senses and feelings in this three part narrative of a person discovering a small flower, then thinking about it all the way home.

To appeal to a time poor audience with very low nature connection, the posters create a sense of fun and positivity to draw the audience in, and use handmade textures and hand-drawn typography to make nature connection seem fun, easy and welcoming.

This project is inspired by the research of Dr Miles Richardson and the Nature Connectedness Research Group at the University of Derby.
