On October 31st, 2015 the medium gauge line that connected Lumding to Silchar was discontinued, in favor of the now functional broad gauge. On the route lay two scenic stations- Haflong Hill and Jatinga.

Haflong is the only hill station in Assam. It is an ethnically diverse town that serves as the district headquarters of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council. Jatinga is situated 6kms south of Haflong, and is home to around 2500 Khasi-Pnar community. The small town is of major interest to ornithologists owing to the occurrence of a strange phenomenon of mysterious bird deaths that happen in the months following the heavy monsoon.

Functional since 1903, the MG line route today resembles a winding mountain road that crisscrosses through forests, slash and burn agricultural fields, and crowded habitation that have grown in numbers since the discontinuation. Essentially it’s a ghost railway track that passes through ghost stations.

The arrival of the train was the birth of cinema, what then do ghost trains signify?
