Upscaled the original image with MultiDiffusion at different denoising levels.

Then I took chunks that I liked, collaged/painted in Photoshop and made whatever adjustments I wanted, then downscaled it and blurred it, and upscaled it again with Multidiffusion. Did that a bunch of times until I was happy with the result.
