CRYSTAL CELLS
Kimberley (Xiyu) Zhang / Academy of Art University / MFA Student
If we compare this world to a huge Petri dish, then every culture or interest group is a cell. These cells sometimes overlap, hybridize, and sometimes split apart. White, male, heterosexual, will undoubtedly be the giant cells in this petri dish, and constantly trying to devour other smaller cells, blocking the diversity of the world. There are many different minority groups in the world. They are usually considered to be "fragile" and "isolated". However, minorities are scarce precisely because of their distinctive and shining merits. Will they really become a permanent minority as time goes by? The forces of nature will make these crystal cells grow, mature and become stronger gradually. In this diversified world, there are more crystal cells need to be seen.

In this poster, you will see a brief introduction to the concepts represented by these three minorities. First, the Asian and the black half-breed child. The concept behind then is the Hybridity & Hapa; Second, the supporters of Matriarchy , the concept behind them is Matriarchy. Third, the Asexuals, who represents a new concept of sexual orientation, Asexuality . I know a lot of people surrounding me, they belong to there three minorities, and they are less noticed than the LBGT and feminism. Therefore, I hope that more people can try to get to know them through this work. I have no intention or qualification to make any comments on these groups. They are sparkling crystal cells, living with us in the petri dish of the world. They should not only be considered fragile. They should be precious, and deserve respect and recognition.
