Auschwitz reflections I

While talking about travelling, with a friend... A suggestion was made: "Let's go to Auschwitz?!"
So, we travelled to Kraków, and from there we went on a tour to the Memorial and Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau.
While it is common to see photographs of Auschwitz in black and white or with a subtle color palette, I made a deliberate choice to capture and convey the vivid colours I encountered during my visit. Despite the haunting history and the unimaginable horrors that took place, I believe that showcasing the authentic colours I witnessed adds a layer of realism and connection to the present.

On a fortuitously sunny day, I was able to capture the vibrant hues that painted the surroundings, infusing the space with a unique energy. By showcasing these colours, I hope to provide a different perspective—one that goes beyond the darkness of the past and emphasises the resilience of life and the importance of cherishing even the smallest moments of beauty.

Auschwitz-Birkenau stands as a solemn memorial, reminding us of the unfathomable tragedy that unfolded there during the Holocaust. It is a place that demands reflection and remembrance, urging us to confront the darkest aspects of human history. I strongly believe that everyone should visit Auschwitz-Birkenau, not only to pay tribute to the victims but also to bear witness and ensure that the lessons learned from this tragedy shape a more compassionate and inclusive future.

Through my photography, I strive to create a dialogue between the past and the present, offering a glimpse into the vibrant colours that coexist with the weight of history. By capturing and sharing these moments, I hope to inspire empathy, understanding, and a collective commitment to building a world free from hatred and injustice.
