The Black-rumped Flameback  is a medium-sized woodpecker species known for its striking appearance and drumming behavior. It is typically inhabits both evergreen and deciduous forests, as well as wooded areas near human settlements. It has a distinctive black back, a red crown, and a white rump, which makes it easily recognizable. The male flameback also possesses a prominent red mustache-like stripe on its cheek. The woodpecker primarily feeds on insects, including ants, beetles, and termites, which it locates by drumming on tree trunks and probing crevices.
