Maneki Neko - Variants

Maneki Neko - Variants
During a series of live streams for the Adobe Education Leaders Program on Behance, I decided to create a design challenge for my followers.

The idea was to create a character and show how it can be colored. Then allow followers to have a PNG of the line art that they could then adjust and adapt.

Thus, the Maneki Neko challenge was born.

Here are some of the variants that I created.

To take the Maneki Neko challenge you will need to subscribe to my Behance page, which will unlock all the videos from previous live streams.
The original image was created using Adobe Illustrator. Here you can see a basic white Mankei Neko or Lucky Cat.
It was simple to create a calico cat and give the vector design some spots.
For this variation, the line art was simply changed from dark grey to blue.
I decided to make the character design a little more fun and gave it a star shaped spot.
Naturally, this led to a Ziggy Stardust version of the Maneki Neko.... gotta love David Bowie.
Simple changes can be fun, so I decided to create one hold a Dragon Ball.  So for Dragon Ball Z fans here you go!
Another version of the Dragon Ball Z Maneki Neko has colors meant to represent the Super Saiyan version of Goku.
Here you can see some of the submissions to the community challenge.
