The Budgie and The Butterfly
Andover College, A-level Graphic Design Year 2 Project 2
I decided that I wanted all of my work to be hand-drawn giving it a vintage, delicate feel to it. I looked at botanical artists and drew different flowers, butterflies, and budgies to come up with the basis for my designs. I drew them all in black biro to give them a solid outline and added minimal shading to help give them depth.
I started by experimenting with different notebook cover designs, using a mixture of collage, watercolour and my hand-drawn imagery. I noticed that there were three seperate themes to my designs, retro (bright bold colours paired with printed imagery), dada (lots of collage and hand drawn imagery) and mono (simple balack and white hand drawn imagery). I decided to seperate my favourite experiments int ot hese three categories and finalise four covers for each range.
