Rincon Culture Center

RINCON CULTURE CENTER - TRANSFORMATION
Rincon is a city in Puerto Rico that is famous for it’s surfing beaches. It has a tropical climate. The use of metal curtain walls is very common. They are used to block the sun, the rain, and most importantly, a hurricane.

Inspired by Paul Rudolph’s famous Walker’s Guest House, I want to design a space with flexible boundaries so the interior and exterior space can be used multi-functionally.

The new Rincon Culture Center will be a space with mobile panels. The sliding elements will create shifting outdoor work spaces with altering views. The shifting boundary is controlled by the users and the weather. How the panels are setup define the purpose of the space. It also helps to maximize the use of a limited space.

The panels will function as the enclosing wall, in addition to be the ventilating element. It will also act as the shading device and the hurricane shelter.
