L.H.O.O.Q or Ja Laconde is an art created by the French-American painter Marcel Duchamp (1887-1968), influenced by the original painting named Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519). It was one of Duchamp’s first works of art related to Readymade - by choosing everyday objects and turning them into art.
This idea at the time went against the assumption about art must be aesthetic. Duchamp himself, under the name R Mutt, submitted at an art exhibition in New York. He also anonymously defended R Mutt, in other words, Duchamp created his point of view about the style based on his sense of humor. Marcel, or R Mutt, wanted to construct a fresh concept by putting a different name to the original object, placing it somehow that confuses audiences, and making it a new definition for the item.

Duchamp said that the Mona Lisa was becoming a real man, not a disguised woman as a man. This reminded me of another meaning of mischief, a pun of the author himself, L.H.O.O.Q., in French means “She has a hot arse.” He wanted to offend the mass production of the Mona Lisa” as a tourist icon and to make an explanation for it. Mona Lisa still has her deep-set eyes and round face, but with the addition of a mustache and beard, it became a brand new way of thinking. According to Sigmund Freud, an Austrian neurologist, Leonardo was homophobic and didn’t know how to finish both his work of art to the reticence of his sexual life. Duchamp also pointed out the doubt of the gender of Leonardo’s aesthetic, that he sees the male form in the opposite gender.
The online exhibition submission was open to students who enrolled in any Design Studies course at RMIT Hanoi Campus. Students were required to submit one favourite design made by them & & its description from any Design Studies courses that they have taken in Semester 1/2020 at RMIT Hanoi City campus & one idea about the name of this online exhibition.
