PSA Poster - Project 03 Saving for Retirement
PSAs are designed to make the public or specific audiences more aware of an issue and to take action.  Effective PSAs can leave a lasting impact.  Creating a PSA that is effective needs to be targeted.  Especially when they are human-centered.  In this way it is easiest to make sure that the ad will resonate with the public audience.   Most people are more inclined to care about a cause and act if they see how it personally affects them or their community.
The purpose of a PSA is to educate people about topics like substance abuse, education, inclusive workplaces, physical and mental health, etc. It is not about interesting the public in a product for them to purchase instead is it trying to create awareness or even start a conversation.
Powerful and convincing PSA’s are meant to motivate people to change and it is incredibly important that PSA’s have a clear call to action.

This project is meant to target the demographic of
ethnic women as they are least likely to save for retirement.
This poster was very close to done for a while.  It was important to make sure that the title was readable and that the call to action was framed out in the layout to create a little more interest.  The idea behind the campaign was to make sure that we saw ethnic women saving for their retirement.
This poster was created to send the message about how retirement funds
are really in your hands.

This poster was to help illustrate visually how much of a responsibility they had on their retirement fund. I think that the graphic of the percentages showed very effectively that retirement funds are really more about what you contribute than what you may get from the government.

Most of these drafts of the ideas that I had for the poster stayed close to the inception of the concept. I wanted to show women that were positive and hopeful.  I felt it was important to also show how they were putting even a little bit away for the retirement fund they were saving for, making the message that saving for your retirement fund is very attainable.

By finalizing my images I learned that I could make some PSA posters that were effective in informing, and giving a clear call to action.  I think that my final posters were very strong and looked very professional.  It was good that I continued to refine my ideas because if I had stopped after just the first draft of my ideas I do not think the message would have been as refined.

I think that my final posters are successful because they communicate all of the information that would apply to my target audience.  The image of the ethnic women saving money joyfully is very positive, which I think has a more impactful impression on the viewer.  Then incorporating the idea of a little piggy bank for saving money is something that is very relateable.  I think that it brings a sense of every effort counts toward the goal of having a healthy retirement fund.
