Collaborative Project - Through The Kaleidoscope

This module allowed me to collaborate across creative disciplines in the development of a group assignment. Students in the Art and Design Level 5 and 6 courses will participate in groups to create a product that combines many artistic talents, methods, and outputs. I will work from a brief. Teamwork, self-awareness, and multidisciplinary contextual knowledge and abilities are critical components of this process.

I needed to create the design for the end-of-year show, which will feature work from the following programmes: FE Art, Design and Creative Media, Access to HE, Yr1 GMC, Yr1 Art and Design, Yr2 Art and Design, and BA(Hons) Contemporary Art and Design Practice. My clients will be BA(Hons) Contemporary Art and Design Practice students. As a group, I will be creating exhibition material such as a poster, banner, social media ads/marketing, text, and opening night literature. Following consultation with Level 6, each of you will produce a concept as a group, from which you will select one to move ahead for execution. Each of you will be assigned duties to guarantee that the production is of professional quality.
How is it used as a symbol?
As an individual I feel that kaleidoscopes can symbolise many elements in everyday life. If you look at people as individuals, beauty is found on the inside because each of us is composed of the exact same components. However, as a group, we are distinct living creatures. The light that enters the kaleidoscope represents life, and the colours and geometrical forms that emerge represent an individual's individuality, soul, and being, in which the beauty is located. All of us are kaleidoscopes.

In the context of the exhibition, what does the theme “Through the Kaleidoscope” mean and who/what does it represent?
I think the kaleidoscope symbol for creativity is fantastic since it represents each individual's inventiveness. As an individual, I am an illustrator; nevertheless, other students' styles of work differ from mine. They may inspire to be anything other than an illustrator, but they enjoy their creativity the same way I do. Personally, I believe the Level 6 students have considered each individual who will be displaying their work at the exhibition, which leads to the conclusion of the title, Through the Kaleidoscope.
First ideas
1. I was inspired by Jonathan Lax and Valp Maciej Hajnrich designs.
2. I wanted to use CYMK colours throughout my designs, they are the 4 colours used during the printing process, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black.
3. I wanted to create different layers within my designs.
4. I didn’t want to limit my abilities to create something unique when I have the resources to layer different techniques, including techniques I can learn to help me create the poster digitally for my final design.
