CLIENT PROJECT: VIDEO GAME CHARACTER DESIGN BRIEF

This was a character design brief I did for a hypothetical video game. The game would allow the player to control a photography robot as it travels through time and photographs prehistoric animals in several prehistoric environments. It was described to me a "Pokemon Snap but with Dinosaurs" which gave me a good idea of what tone the client was going for.
The robot character ended up with the name P.I.P or Prehistoric Imagery Photographer. I went through a number of design options. I tried a hovering simplistic design but wanted something more memorable and unique. I then tried some animal-like builds for my robot, first trying some crab and trilobite-like designs, then trying a more bird-like bipedal build. I ultimately liked the latter most as it best matched the inquisitive and playful personality i wanted P.I.P to have, and explored a few options with that basic build before landing on a design I like a lot.
I did some media experimentation sketches to get an idea of how some of my concept sketches would look with some colour and in different styles
I drew a few examples of P.I.P in situations and environments that the player could experience in-game, and i think some of these perfectly match the personality i wanted P.I.P to have, and the tone the game would have.
I drew him in Adobe Illustrator with different segments ready to be used in a short animation
I also did a simple animated segment of P.I.P looking around, tapping his feet, and hopping. Although simple and short, i think this gives a good idea of P.I.Ps inquisitive and playful nature.
