The Yoruba Culture: A Semiotic Interpretation

As Umberto Eco stated, "Semiotics is concerned with anything that can be taken as a sign." In this project, I explored the Yoruba culture through the lens of semiotics, delving into how symbols are used to make meaning and how they can be interpreted differently based on cultural backgrounds. Through fashion, food, occupation, religion, and gods, I aimed to bring the richness of Yoruba culture into design. In this portfolio piece, I present a semiotic interpretation of three pictures from my concept board, showcasing the importance of careful communication through symbols, particularly when working with brands expanding globally.
