¿QUÉ ES?
Valladolid es una ciudad marcada por dos de sus ejes vertebradores, uno formado por el río al oeste y otro por el recorrido del ferrocarril al este en dirección norte-sur; este recorrido de 6 km está flanqueado a cada lado por un muro que separa a la ciudad del ferrocarril, y, de esta manera, divide la ciudad en dos zonas diferenciadas, como lo hace el río al otro lado, pero de una forma mucho menos amable.
“DESEOS DEL OTRO LADO” es un proyecto artístico anclado en este referente físico, visto desde la perspectiva del lado en desventaja, los barrios separados del centro. La barrera crea una idiosincrasia específica a estos barrios, y modela su funcionamiento respecto del resto de la ciudad; por un lado crea sensación de aislamiento y abandono, y por otro dota de una personalidad especial a estas zonas, y de un carácter especial a sus habitantes sobre la defensa de sus espacios por un lado y sus deseos de huída por otro.
De esa situación proviene el título del proyecto; son los deseos que provienen de ese lado de los desaventajados urbanos sobre el lado favorecido, el lado de la órbita deseable, de la cercanía a un centro de poder, incluso de un ideario de “lo bonito”, lo deseable, lo que está al otro lado del muro.
El muro presenta diversas facturas, texturas, imperfecciones, huellas, abandonos, intervenciones naturales y sociales; y de cuando en cuando ofrece un agujerito por el que atravesarlo, un embudo, una serie de puntos de paso obligado si se quiere salir de la zona, un peaje pagado por el mero hecho de pasar. Ese camino es un medio y un castigo. Y de tenerlo omnipresente llega a ser invisible a los ojos hasta que lo miras de verdad, y vuelve a ser tangible de nuevo.
La obra no pretende juzgar. Sólo emite imágenes. Existe ya literatura sobre el tema.
El proyecto se divide en 5 capítulos con imágenes que recogen diversas sensaciones a través de diversas soluciones gráficas:

WHAT IS IT?
