Brochure- Gender Based Violence

For this project, our goal was to design an informative brochure about The University of Johannesburg's online reporting system and other healing and recovery services for gender-based violence. Although we are dealing with a serious matter, we wanted to achieve our goal in a way that is still inviting and encouraging. We chose the title “Let’s grow together” to inspire change. We hope that our design decisions, alongside the enlightening information, inspire students to treat others with kindness, respect and dignity. Furthermore, we hope that it encourages victims to report their oppressors (using UJ's reporting system) and to make use of the healing and recovery services offered.

For the cover page of our brochure, we chose to show off a strong, proud and dignified survivor of gender-based violence and rape. She looks directly at the viewer, challenging them to look into her eyes. We also included bright, blooming flowers to emphasize our message- just like flowers bloom each spring after enduring winter’s harsh conditions, those who survive and come back stronger from any type of abuse are beautiful and should be admired. When designing our illustration, We used textures and shadows to add detail. For the background, We chose to use a light shade of purple, our colourful illustrations really pop off it! To complete the design, we added a beige border. The typeface that we opted for is aesthetically pleasing however, we paired it with a more legible typeface for the body copy.

Despite the seriousness of the given topic, we hope that our design can inspire us to grow together and to bring about positive change.
