Project Brief
For this project I am expected to research and develop a low cost – sustainable and small-scale – scalable ‘hydroponic planter’.
Some of the research will be achieved through conducting experiments with different plants (seeds) and growing mediums to figure out what works best for planting seeds this part of the project I will also include the plant cloning process.
The experiment will include be growing my own plants using different types of planting systems to see which system works faster, which is stronger, and which will be healthier for the plants.
The whole project will focus on The University of Johannesburg and filling empty spaces with Greens to fill the stomachs of less fortunate students with the use of the growing tunnels at the hill up UJs Bunting Road Campus.
This project not a farming project but a small-scale growing project and the expertise from the farmers from the University will help me gain more understanding the requirements behind the different plants, the in’s-and-outs including the good and the bad.

Hydroponic Systems
Hydroponics is a method of growing plants indoors without using any soil. Instead of pulling mineral nutrients needed for growth from the ground, plants get all of their nutrition through a nutrient solution supplied to their roots.
