Illustrations for the exhibition ¡Viva México! at The Museum of World Culture (Världskulturmuseet) in Gothenburg.
When doing this commission I got a lot of research material from the theme behind the exhibition and I complemented it with visual input from Mexican arts and crafts, both old and new.
In DEATH, you can see Xolotl, and Huitzilopochtli, two gods involved in Aztec death and war myths. The pattern on the dress, as well as the plants and flowers in the background, are inspired by several textiles and Aztec codices.
In LIFE, you can see Quetzalcoatl, and Tezcatlipoca, two gods involved in Aztec creation myths. The pattern on her dress, as well as the plants and flowers in the background, are inspired by several textiles.
Since LIFE and DEATH are connected in Mexican traditions they wanted to emphasize this in the exhibition. The illustrations are both mounted on vertical blinds in the exhibition, so the visitor can switch between LIFE and DEATH, and combined with a muted color palette, used on a circular mat as a centrepiece in the exhibition.

I also created a wall painting connected to the exhibitions theme, on the glass in the entrance hall at The Museum of World Culture.
