Typography Project on George Orwell's book 1984.
I took a modern approach to the book. Big Brother sees and controls all.
With a modern approach, I applied the Bradley Manning case to Winston Smith's Smiths character/
Winston Smith stole information from "Big Brother" and trusted a party member who reported him.
He also was in love with a woman called Julia, which was forbidden. When Big Brother found out that he was in a relationship with Julia and having expressed interest in being a rebel, he was captured and tortured. He was broken to the point where he would rather Big Brother harm Julia than him which you will see when you watch the video!

Finds information about mass surveillance. Copy also includes quotes from the book.
After downloading the files Winston de-cyphers the information to read "Slavery is Freedom."
In the book Winston trusts O'Brien. As I have modernised the concept I used a chat room just like Bradley Manning where Winston reveals to O'Brien he has stolen information about Big Brother. At this point Big Brother intercepts the conversation.
Big Brother warns Winston Smith, they know he stole information.
The next scenes to follow are based on the movie where Winston Smith is interrogated and broken.
Winston Smith is electrocuted becuase he answers 2+2 correctly until eventually he does as he is told. If the party says 2+2 is 5 then it is 5.
Winston is breaking. He pleads to stop.
Critical point where the reader in the book and the viewer understand that Winston is finally broken.
Winston is afraid of rats and having been threatened with them wishes the pain on Julia.
Interrogation concluded. Winston was broken and no longer a threat.
Winston was released back to civilain life.
