Kagedo Japanese Art has been one of the Pacific Northwest's esteemed galleries that has specialized in Japanese art from the late 19th to contemporary 20th century. In operation for more than 30 years, Kagedo has offered work to a variety of clients that are in institutional and private collections that include the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria (AGGV) in Victoria, B.C., Canada, the Denver Art Museum, and Larry Ellison, the founder and CFO of Oracle. In 1987, Kagedo Japanese Art in 1987 sold a Shintō shrine that was originally built in Japan in 1903 to the AGGV in Victoria, B.C. It is the only Shintō shrine that is from Japan in North America.

Originally based in Seattle's Pioneer Square, the gallery moved Kagedo Japanese Art online after its owners moved to Orcas Island in Washington State's San Juan Islands. Kagedo is now currently based in Bellingham, Washington, and remains online.

Kagedo Japanese Art needed to find a new online platform after having the web site hosted on Wordpress for over 5 years. The size of the web site with its sprawling archive, collection of photography and images, and original text content meant that it was too great of a risk to continue with Wordpress and the maintenance and security issues associated with the platform. A solution was found with Squarespace, and a migration of the entire web site was required to maintain the cohesive site architecture and retain the rich content contained in the archives.

The new site on Squarespace offers a consulting service form as well as a site comprehensive search, and a fresh presentation for Kagedo's featured collection and archive.

Site Launch: August 2022.
