Scatoline is a lovely series by the Italian publisher Effequ. It's a series of micro-essays for children 5y+. Every essay start from a single word, a word of common use with big concepts behind - like Friendship or Beauty or House - and they reflect on the concept in ways accessible to children.
[Scatoline is a serie of 24 books. The cover were designed by Chiara De Marco as puzzle, if you put all the books in order one by one you get a single huge illustration.]

The idea is giving children the tools to understand the power behind words and how we use it. Big concepts made easy. The curator of the series is Vera Gheno, linguist and scholar focused on the evolution of the Italian language and the inclusive use of language. The authors are some of the most interesting in Italy in this very moment, like Nicoletta Vallorani (paired with SIO) Giovanna Cosenza (and Takoua Ben Mohamed for the illustrations) Nadeesha Uyangoda (with Sara Menetti) and Fabrizio Acanfora with illustrations by Francesco Chiacchio.
My word was Error, and I couldn't be more delighted. The author of the text was Vanessa Roghi, amazing writer and expert on the work of Gianni Rodari. I used the metaphor of a tree, trimmed and polished, where branches get free and give unexpected, creative fruits.
Every book has two versions of the same illustration: one in color, one in black and white as a coloring page for kids to color as they see fit.
