Fontoira, the font from the sea

Fontoira is a font inspired by the hand painted boat identification numbers made by Raúl Fontoira, a former seaman from Porto Meloxo, during the past decades.

He developed a very particular style of lettering which became a classic and a high demanded task in the boats of O Grove and its surroundings.

The typeface is intended to pay respect to his art and to continue his legacy in a digital way.
Ship numbers are not hand painted anymore.
Some of the ships hand painted by Raúl Fontoira.
Some lettering by Raúl Fontoira himself.
Licensing Fontoira is free for personal purposes. You can pay a fair amount for a commercial use.
