Material+ & Sephora

The emotions from racial bias are felt but often unexpressed.

Le Loup Studios partnered with Sephora and Material to capture how BIPOC customers felt about the unfair treatment they encountered during their retail experiences. Using Material's award-winning research as the foundation, we captured raw reactions as our guests described firsthand how they experienced racial bias.

As a result, we created a film that highlights their experience, as well as framing the road towards the solution through the five truths, reaffirming that retailers must play a part in their businesses to confront, address and determine how best to reduce racial bias and unfair treatment.
Bringing the research to life.

To showcase the outcome of our partnership with Material and Sephora we created this video case study to highlight the pervasiveness of inequity in US retail. To authentically bring the Racial Bias in Retail study to life, we worked alongside our all-Black production team and a diverse cast to capture the real conversations taking place in the retail sector between shoppers and employees alike.
The Five Truths.

Material's study was designed to measure racially biased experiences in US retail and to identify opportunities to end unfair treatment, both in Sephora stores and in retail more broadly. They interviewed shoppers and retail employees across the U.S. and identified five “truths” about the American retail experience for BIPOC customers.

Using the information uncovered, we created digital and print assets for Material to share with their B2B clients.
