More about the project

The purpose of this project is to visually represent a simple, useful object -tape-, through the lens of creative strategies. It pushed me to come up with creative solutions to express meaningful ideas.

The steps I followed to complete this project:

1. Choose an object- Tape, both duct and electrical tape
2. Understand creative strategies- The strategies include material change, juxtaposition, metaphor, isolation, and shape.
3. Develop a variety of concepts- Sketching several ideas before starting to work on my final designs in Photoshop
4. Create a series of images- Refining all the final designs and posting them on Behance

Material Change | I shot a photo of my hand holding electrical tape; then, I masked that picture and positioned it in a way that mixed with the road. After that, I added some filters to match the same lightning in both pictures and finally, I added a yellow line going up the tape.

Shape | This is the simplest, most clever design. The idea came while I was looking at images of tape on the internet, and then I saw this shape and thought of a duck's head. This led me to think of duct tape, and that is how this idea was born.

Juxtaposition | The story it tries to tell is that electrical tape is so strong that even an astronaut could use it to attach himself to the spaceship. I also combined different images to create this design; first, a photo of an astronaut; next, a photo of the earth; and third, a photo of a paper towel holder with electrical tape on it. I matched the light and blended everything.

Metaphor | The message is, that although the world is a place full of suffering, we all can do our part to fix it and heal it. Together, we can hold the world and make a difference.

Isolation | I used three different images, one of a black floor, another of a sticky texture, and the last one of a foot/shoe. I mainly worked on matching lightning and blending edges so everything looked smooth.
