HABOUBA WITH A GAMAR BOBA Earring
Johannes Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring reimagined as a Sudanese lady in
traditional Sudanese attire: white gown (toub) and moon-shaped golden earring (gamar boba). Habouba means grandmother in Sudanese Arabic. This is a tribute to Sudanese matriarchs, as there are countless photographs of young haboubas', in toubs and gamar bobas.
