The Curious Incident of the Dog In the Night-Time
This book design aims to catch the readers eye and make them curious about what this book is about. The main element, the illustration shows a dog that is happy and free spirited but the title shows otherwise, adding to the mystery of what this book is about. The gloomy colors and the uneven pitchforks not matching the mood of the dog are intended to create a cryptic and unsettling emotion.
For this book cover I wanted to create an ominous feel by having a black and white distorted dog image. I also chose this all uppercase typeface for the title to show the seriousness of the issue and to make it seem louder. The red paint splatters foreshadow chaos and perhaps blood. I chose a more cheerful color for the background to contrast with the serious look to give it a more lighthearted feeling so the book does not appear like a horror story. I also specifically used the color red and yellow because they play an important role in the book.
