SOLUTION
To capture the essence of roller derby and the intensity of a bout, the Blood & Thunder magazine redesign features a simplified design through a refined grid and type palette. Since the magazine circulates primarily to derby enthusiasts, the redesign reduced the clutter of each spread and created a typographic hierarchy so that all content is presented with appropriate significance. Custom hand drawn type used in the masthead reflects the angles and curves of the roller derby track while the feature article showcases the competitive edge found in the derby community.
