Extensions: ‘Anxiety’ - variation 1

Extensions is a project that is exploring translations of feelings and symptoms of mental disorders into digital models.

Through the process of additive manufacturing becomes a physical extension visualizing the intangible as a wearable sculpture.

‘Anxiety’ : My experience with anxiety while varied from external and internal factors. The pain it surfaced in was physical. When I reflect back at the intense anxiety attacks it’s mind blowing to me how my body would collapse and the heaviness of the air that suffocated me from expressing anything. It is a difficult thing to hold. And while therapy and recovery aids in understanding I still find my body seeking rest from the pain although now -and this is thanks to psychoanalysis- I find myself understanding better how to grasp and hold this let’s say heavy object.

´PTSD’ : trauma triggers often feel disruptive and disorganized but with time to me they became very specific and had a certain suffocating hold on me.

´Depression’ - variation 1

Extensions is a project that is exploring translations of feelings and symptoms of mental disorders into digital models.

Through the process of additive manufacturing becomes a physical extension visualizing the intangible as a wearable sculpture.

´Depression’ : I still find difficulty with labels, coming from a middle eastern background the stigma I was raised with still has an effect, in the beginning it felt like a badge of shame and through time the meaning changes not quite sure to what but I can feel how this has become a part of my identity, in the sense that depression did shape a lot of who I am. This is in no way a romanticism of the disorder that many of us face and live with but more of a personal acknowledgment to find peace with myself and the pain I have endured.
