The Odd Card - Rabbit New Year 2023

The Odd Card
Lunar New Year greeting

The year of the Black Rabbit 2023 is upon us, and The Odd Card - a trinket of great import - stands ready to salute the occasion.

As I have delved into the study of rabbit symbolism, two metaphors have stood out to me above all others. The first is the saying "to breed like rabbits," which refers to the creatures' proclivity for rapid and abundant reproduction. The second is the phrase from my beloved book, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, "down the rabbit hole," which describes the sensation of entering a strange and surreal place - a feeling that I am sure many of us have experienced at one time or another.

The Odd Card brings these two allegories together, creating a meta-symbol that represents the concept of rabbit holes multiplying as quickly as rabbits themselves. This results in an endless pattern of bizarre and peculiar circumstances, a notion that reflects the fast-paced and unpredictable nature of the world we live in. In this age of constant change, it is important that we maintain a flexible mindset, both intellectually and emotionally, in order to adapt to the shifting reality around us. And as we look towards the future, let us celebrate our oddities and embrace the strange and surreal, for it is these very quirks that make us who we are.

"To breed like rabbits""Down the rabbit hole"

So hold The Odd Card up to the light, dear friend, and gaze into the ruff-like tunnel printed upon its surface. Within, you will see the dynasty of rabbit holes, a genealogy root rather than a tree. Let this image serve as a reminder of the endless possibilities and odd circumstances that may come our way. For it is our ability to adapt and embrace the peculiar that will guide us through even the most bewildering of times.

The odd facts:

Artificial Intelligence wrote this project description as an homage to Lewis Carroll.

The Odd Card was silkscreened in October 2022 in Kyiv (Ukraine) during blackouts caused by russian shelling. At some point, printers had to use phone flashlights to continue printing without electricity. I am grateful for their dedicated work!
