In early 2013, our team was assigned the task of redesigning the Undergraduate Admissions Website from the bottom up. This highly visible website had not been redesigned in over 10 years, which proved to be a major problem because it served as the welcome mat to most incoming freshman.

This project had already been in the hands of higher ed web icon mStoner, as well as another IT-based web development group on campus. It landed in our hands because the newly appointed VP wanted the site to mirror our division’s print ad campaign and feature real FIU students and their storied. This was an amazing experience for me, as I was the project lead, put in charge of the overall design and art direction.

This project was the WebComm team's first attempt to incorporate a modern style guide originally created during FIU's redesign in late 2012, which included a clearer logo and branding strategy handed down from FIU’s director of marketing. The design combined a new HTML/CSS framework (Zurb Foundation), a home brew code library and a fully responsive template.

The overhaul of the Undergraduate Admissions website was a success and great point of pride for the us; the entire redesign was team-driven, as there was no Director of Web (a.k.a. “boss”) present for the entire duration of the project.

- A fresh, new branding/style guide for future FIU websites
